LINCOLN COUNTY COMMISSIONER:
The Lincoln County Courthouse, built in 1904, was definitely showing her age and some structural issues were found during engineering studies that became imperative to repair. Top priorities included a new roof, beam and joist repairs, a complete demo of the old basement area, mold and asbestos remediation, sealing of lava rock, brick and repointing, a fire suppression system on all three floors, new commissioner digs in the remodeled basement which will also double as the new ADA courtroom, a heated ADA accessible ramp down to the basement, installing a new HVAC system and much more! Commissioners decided to add some extras such as…
…new inside paint and flooring as well as a new parking lot design and asphalt. Treasures were found during demolition, including 3 pallets of the original brick from the old courthouse hidden in the rafters of the basement, a journeyman’s tool bag from the 1904 build, and many antique bottles, including whiskey and poison! We moved out of the building in June 2023 and are moving back in in August 2024. After failing two bonds to remodel or build new, we were so blessed to have the ARPA and LATCF funding to add to our savings to finally get our historic building structurally sound again and ready to stand another 120 years! We are one of the only historic buildings to be able to use original brick and local original lava rock for all the repairs!
