TWIN FALLS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS:

Spring is here and weeds will follow!   As the weather warms, weeds grow quickly. It is time to start monitoring your property for noxious and obnoxious weeds.

Noxious weeds are plant species designated by law, which show aggressive behavior, are highly adaptive, and detrimental to the environment, humans or animals. These non-native plant species can destroy the land’s potential and impact many sectors of our economy. Early spring noxious weeds are White top, Scotch thistle, Houndstongue and Poison hemlock. Non-noxious spring weeds would include: Burr buttercup, Blue mustard, Dandelion, Prickley lettuce and Kochia. When it comes to weed control there are several tools available and now is a great time to use pre-emergents. Then you can move to other options like mechanical control, biological control, or other herbicides.

What can you do? Know your land and what is on it! Be weed conscious! Being consistent is the key. If using herbicides be careful of where and how they are applied.  Read the label and remember the label is the Law. The challenge is to contain existing weed infestations and prevent them from spreading to unaffected areas. Report any noxious weed in your area to your local County Noxious Weed Control Department.

Twin Falls Noxious Weed Control is located at 1234 Highland Avenue East – 208-734-9000.
